Be Safe
Every year there are hundreds of skiers and snowboarders that get caught in an avalanche. Most of the time the skiers or snowboarders actually trigger the avalanches themselves. If you do get caught in an avalanche don’t try to “outrun” it because you can’t. First, try to find a tree if you do, hold on for dear life. If you slip off wait until the snow stops and dig an air pocket in front of your face so you can breath. Don’t dig to the surface because you might dig the wrong way. If you have space, spit out and what ever way the spit went go the opposite way. Stick a hand out the surface until the rescue team can find you. If you are completely buried you can only live about 18 minutes, so it’s important to get to the surface fast. If you follow these tips you should be fine. Be aware and be safe, but don’t let the fear stop you from having an awesome day up at the mountain.
